Gorse Stacks, Chester

Working with Arup Facade Engineers and Ian Simpson Architects, I have been involved in all stages of the envelope development. This complex building form had a number of challenges relating to its construction and performance. Solar, thermal and weathering performance are all critical for this building and its unusual geometry only made it more challenging

A big challenge in a building such as this is dealing with the number of expensive one-off components required. This was tackled by limiting the number of angles a glazed panel could slope at and then also limiting the number of different elevational angles in the faceting geometry.
